ocean | 65 list for 2001 and 2002, and has won countless dining awards. The establishment dishes out imaginative international cuisine with an Asian touch and mouth-watering local seafood delights. From breakfast to lunch, afternoon snacks and dinner, there are mocktails and cocktails to match. Resident bartenders at the Reef Bar suggest tucking into a 'Passionate Scene' (a concoction of strawberry and passionfruit liqueurs with fresh juices) or a tropical 'Midori Avalanche'. And the best time to have one of those drinks is by moonlight. At the Reef Bar by night, seaside palm trees are transformed into romantic icons under spotlights, while torch flares add a touch of mystique to the atmosphere. Far Horizons, is however, just one of the many delights on offer at Angsana. Upstairs you will find some of the most sensual, elegant and relaxing day spa treatments on offer in this region. The property was named Best Hotel Day Spa at the 2003 and 2005 HM Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence. And award-winning treatments is just what you will find. The range of Body Polishes available on the menu are definitely recommended - especially the Tropical Fruit Wash, which would have to be one of the top treatments I have had in a long time. Also recommended is the Jasmine Frangipani Sparkle - a blend of the two flowers mixed in with mineral spa salt, leaving a delightful and refreshing feel for your skin. The spa treatments are some of the reasons why Angsana tasted more success recently. The resort took out the 'Luxury Accommodation' category at the recent 2004 Tropical North Queensland Tourism Awards. Angsana's neighbour and the newest property in Palm Cove, the Sea Temple Resort and Spa, is certainly following closely in the Awarded category. It won Australia's Best New Hotel gong at the 2005 HM Awards and has quickly taken its place as one of the areas's top properties. They say first impressions matter, and from the moment I arrived at the property after jumping off my Virgin Blue flight, it quite simply exceeded all expectations. Here is a resort that may just be one of the best five we have in Australia. From the elegantly appointed rooms to the stunning ten-plus metre high palm trees, outdoor restaurant and several pools, this is exactly what resorts in Australia should be all about. Across a small bridge at the front of the property lies the gorgeous Palm Cove Beach, lined with palm trees, natural vegetation, golden sand and dark blue water that seemingly never ends. There are 80 extravagant rooms at the Sea Temple, ranging from one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments, to penthouses with rooftop spas, and bures with individual plunge pools. Many of the apartments offer direct "swim-out" access to the large central lagoon. The rooms feature big screen TVs, elegant furniture, very comfortable beds and stunning 'tropical' wooden furniture. The in-room dining menu is extensive and the wine list is one of the best you will find at any North Queensland hotel. Like Angsana Spa, the Sea Temple Spa is also a gem. The Spa offers a tranquil and soul restoring escape from the cares and stresses of the outside world. Distinctly Asian in design and décor, and of course incorporating water features, the Sea Temple Spa uses Comfort Zone products, a totally indulgent experience with therapeutic sea elements, including sea rocks, seaweed and sand treatments, dead-sea cocoons, sea salt glow and specialist aqua treatments. The other standout property in Palm Cove is the Outrigger Beach Club and Spa, located to the north of Angsana and Sea Temple. Featuring 220 rooms, the Outrigger Beach Club is one of the largest resorts in Palm Cove and also one of the most popular. Along with the well appointed accommodation, the resort is also home to several of the town's best restaurants, including Tamara. With serene ocean views, Tamara is a great hotel restaurant that offers excellent meals from breakfast to dinner. Then there's the day spa treatments. Featuring a menu of 45 different treatments, Sanctum Spa, located within the Outrigger Beach Club and Spa, offers pretty much something for everyone. With a mix of seven wet and dry rooms and an extensive menu of treatments, guests have a wide range of choices in a lush, Pacific Island style environment. Featuring Phytomer, one of the leading product ranges, signature treatments at Sanctum include: the Oceanic Massage, a unique treatment using algae extracts that will remove dead skin cells to soften and rehydrate the body; a Rebalance for Men massage; and Serum of the Sea. Described by staff as the ideal introduction to spa therapies, Serum of the Sea incorporates aromatic marine waters with specific massage movements to optimise complete relaxation. But, for the ultimate treatments at Sanctum, you need to look no further than the range of prestige treatments. Seven luxury treatments are available and range in time from 45 minutes to 180 minutes, and up to three days. In this collection, the Sea Tonic is divine. Sit back and relax as you experience a full body treatment cleanse of the face Phytomer specific eye massage and a hydrotherapy bath treatment. Your body is enveloped in a cool gel concentrate with marine firming properties and sprinkled with warming freeze-dried seawater. This refreshing treatment leaves the skin feeling moisturised and toned and promotes the formation of elastin and collagen for firmer healthier skin. If you are not relaxed enough from the treatments, then hit the resort's lagoon style pool and swim up to the bar for a refreshing cocktail. The rooms are well appointed, and especially so those in the Serenity Wing. The wing contains its own private rainforest pool with suites all featuring gas barbecues and entertainment areas, together with state-of-the-art entertainment facilities, including DVDs and flatscreen televisions. Getting there: Palm Cove is quick sail, or a 20 minute drive north of Cairns.
